The west-facing backyard problem
A large share of Frisco's newer subdivisions put backyards on a west or southwest orientation, which means the patio takes direct low-angle sun from about three in the afternoon until sunset — exactly the hours you would want to be out there. An open-rafter pergola set at standard spacing will not solve that. Low sun comes in under the rafters, not through them.
What actually works is either a solid roof with enough depth to throw real shadow, or a pergola with a vertical louver or slat screen on the west side to block the low angle. We will tell you which one your yard needs, and we will tell you if a cheaper structure is going to leave you disappointed.
Building big on a small lot
Frisco lots are efficient, and once the pool went in there is often not much left. That makes setback lines, easements and pool-equipment clearances a real design constraint rather than a formality. It also makes vertical proportion matter enormously — a structure that would look right on an acre in Southlake reads as overwhelming on a Frisco lot.
We site and scale for the yard you actually have, and we build cabanas and outdoor kitchens tight and tall rather than sprawling. Done well, a small footprint reads as intentional.
HOA committees that mean it
Frisco's master-planned communities have some of the most active architectural review committees in the metroplex, and the newer the community, the stricter the standards — approved stain colors, roof material matching, height limits and setbacks from the rear fence line.
We build the submittal packet with elevations, a site plan and material specs, and we design to the guidelines from the start rather than designing something beautiful and then finding out it is not allowed.
