Nathan Hawkins started this company because he was tired of watching corners get cut on jobs he had no control over.
There are two kinds of construction companies. One sends a salesman to your house, wins the job, and hands it to a crew you will never meet again. The other is a man who builds things, and who has to look at the result every time he drives past your street.
Hawkins Custom Construction is the second kind, and that is a deliberate limit rather than a stage we have not grown out of.
Nathan does the walkthrough. Nathan writes the bid. Nathan is on your site while it is being built. That means we take fewer jobs than we could, and it means the person who promised you something is the person who has to deliver it. We have found no substitute for that.
What we believe about this work
A quote is a promise. The number we hand you is the number. If we open a wall and find rot nobody could have known about, we stop, show you, and tell you what it costs before we touch it. What we do not do is bid low and make it up in change orders.
The hidden work is the work. Footing depth, standoff bases, flashing, through-bolted connections. None of it photographs well and all of it is the difference between a structure that lasts thirty years and one that lasts eight.
Show up when you said you would. A start date you can plan around. A crew that arrives when we told you. A site swept at the end of every day. This is not a high bar and it is remarkable how often it is not cleared.
Say the hard thing. If your slab is failing, if your existing deck is not safe, if the structure you want will not solve the problem you have — you will hear it from us before you spend money, not after.
What we build
Custom pergolas, covered patios, pavilions and pool cabanas, outdoor kitchens, and decks and docks — across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. We also do commercial amenity work for developers and HOAs: heavy-timber pergolas, pool pavilions, mail kiosks and community docks.
What we do not do is remodels, roofs, additions, or anything else that would pull us away from being genuinely good at one category of work.
How we got here
We started in 2009 building backyard structures for people who had been let down by somebody else. That is still a meaningful share of our work — tearing out a patio cover from the nineties, finding the rot behind it, and building something that will outlast the next owner.
Somewhere along the way developers started calling, and now a good part of our year is amenity structures for new communities: the pergola at the pool, the pavilion by the pond, the mail kiosk every resident walks up to three times a week. Commercial work taught us to hit dates and to build to stamped drawings, and residential work keeps us honest about detail. Each makes the other better.
We would rather turn down a job than take one we cannot do right.
Every year we say no to work — jobs outside what we are good at, schedules we cannot honestly hit, and budgets that would force us to build something we would not stand behind.
That is not us being difficult. It is the only way the promise on the rest of this page means anything.

How a project actually goes
No mystery, no moving target. Here is exactly what happens from the first phone call to the last sweep of the driveway.
We walk your yard
Nathan comes out, looks at the space, and asks what you actually want to do out there. Where the sun lands at four in the afternoon, where the gas and power are, what the HOA will allow. No sales pitch, no pressure, no charge.
A real design, not a guess
You get a drawing with dimensions, material specs and stain colors — enough to see it before it exists and enough to hand to an HOA architectural committee.
One number, in writing
An itemized, fixed bid. Everything that is included is on the page. If something genuinely changes, we tell you before we do it, not after. No change-order games.
Permits and inspections
We pull the city permit, schedule the inspections, and handle the HOA submittal packet. You do not chase paperwork.
We build it and we clean up
A start date you can plan around, a crew that shows up when we say, and a site that gets swept every evening. When we hand it over, it is finished — stained, sealed, and ready.
